I sew on a BERNINA 790 PLUS machine, and it has loads of features and functions. There’s one feature that I find fascinating even though I haven’t yet explored all that it can do. The BERNINA 790 PLUS and the 880 PLUS have a directional stitching function that lets you sew in any direction, not just forward or backward. There are several menus of preprogrammed designs that are large – up to 45mm or about 1 ¾”!
The two models come with the Sideways Motion Foot #40. This foot is required to get the best results when sewing directional stitch patterns. These beautiful designs are great for quilting and embellishing all types of projects. The sideways motion patterns are in menu folders. You can identify the sideways motion menus by the compass icon in the lower right corner of the folder.
As you stitch these designs, the fabric is moved under the needle in multiple directions as needed to form the pattern. Watch the Foot Note video below and you’ll see what I mean!
